David Bowie Tops 40 Best Selling Vinyl Albums of 2016

The vinyl revival has been happening for a little while now, but it’s still going strong. While this started out as something niche (even within niche groups of people), it has been continuing to grow and even managed to overtake CD sales in the UK.

So with that in mind, the best selling vinyl albums gives us a pretty clear picture as to what truly did well last year, especially as each vinyl is much more expensive than a CD or digital purchase. Which albums were invested in more on the vinyl platform definitely carries a little more weight due to this increased investment for each album.

More than three million vinyl LPs were sold in 2016, the first time that particular record has been reached in about 25 years. That means that the last time we saw this figure it was 1991, according to a report from the British Phonographic Industry. They also revealed that 2016 made it the fourth year in a row that vinyl sales increased 44% in comparison to last year and vinyl made more money than digital album sales for one week across November/December period.

So with all that said, let’s look at the top 40 best selling vinyl albums for 2016. You can also see the best selling singles here.
