In Kathy Griffin’s new book, Kathy Griffin’s Celebrity Run-Ins: My A-Z Index, she mentioned her ongoing feud with a “beloved daytime talk show host” with short blonde hair. She recently confirmed that she was indeed referring to Ellen DeGeneres.
Apparently, the comedians started off on the wrong foot in 2007 when Ellen did a “monologue about how mean I mean,” says Kathy Griffin. “I was in the dressing room like, ‘S**t! You’re another woman comic, c’mon!’”
Then, Ellen said in an interview with W magazine: “I know she had a big thing about wanting to be on the show, and we didn’t book her. She did a whole thing that I banned her from the show. I didn’t ban her from the show, because first you have to be on the show to be banned.”
In her memoir, Griffin says that the unnamed talk show host “has a mean streak everyone in Hollywood knows about.”
Recently, Griffin confirmed that it was Ellen she was talking about in the book, and in fact, she had cried over their feud.
She confides: “The only angry call I got was from Ellen DeGeneres, which is, by the way, not fun to get when you’re like, a female comic who loves her and her accomplishments.”
“We kind of got into it, and I’m not going to lie, after I hung up, I sobbed like a baby. I admire her and, you know, it was a difficult conversation. But hey, it came with the territory,” she explained.
Griffin’s book also name drops about fellow celebrities Leonardo DiCaprio, Cher, Woody Allen, Britney Spears, Taylor Swift and President-elect Donald Trump.
