Glennon Doyle Melton, well respected author of Carry On, Warrior and the new Oprah book club favorite, Love Warrior, has made her relationship with soccer star, Abby Wambach, official.
Melton, who manages a blog and wrote two nonfiction best-sellers touching on love, addiction, parenting, and the dissolution of a marriage, came out on social media by confessing her feelings for her new partner. She shared a picture of herself with Wamback yesterday with a note to her readers.
“Feels like the world could use all the love it can get right now. So today, I’m going to share with you my new love. Her name is Abby. You might recognize her from soccer. She was one of the best players of all time, and she has been a fierce and committed advocate for women’s equality for a decade. And honestly? Those are the least impressive things about her.”
“Abby is deeply sensitive and kind. [My] kids call her an M&M because she looks tough on the outside but inside she’s really mushy and sweet. Abby’s brave. Not just with her words but with her entire being. She has never been afraid to be herself, even when the world told her not to be. I learn from her every day about the woman I want to become. She is committed to her friends and family. … And oh my God, she is so good to me. She loves me for all the things I’ve always wanted to be loved for. She’s just my favorite. My person.”
Both women are ending their respective marriages. Melton’s book Love Warrior is a discovery of her marriage after her husband’s infidelity. Three months ago the couple announced they would be divorcing. Abby Wambach is also in the midst of divorcing her wife, Sarah Huffman.
Melton concluded her post by saying: “What I need you to know — and what I know you need to know — is that I am deeply, finally, FINE. Fine through my bones and soul and mind and just every fiber of me. … I have officially become a woman who knows who she is and refuses to betray herself. So anyway. What I’m trying to say is. PRECIOUS WORLD: I LOVE ABBY. I’m so happy. Love Wins.”
