Stephen Port, 41, was arrested last October on charges that he raped and killed 4 men between June 2014 and September 2015.
The allegations state that he met his victims on Grindr and invited them over to his apartment. At that point, it is claimed that he drugged, raped and murdered his victims. Port, who is a chef and once appeared on Celebrity MasterChef in the UK, is said to have left their bodies near a churchyard and planted fake suicide notes and prescription bottles on the men.
There are actually 29 charges against him—7 of them are rape allegations and 4 are murders. It is claimed that his criminal behavior began in 2011 and continued to escalate to the 4 murders, which took place in 2014 and 2015. When questioned by police, Port lied to the authorities about his involvement in the crimes.
Prosecutor Jonathan Rees said: “The prosecution says it is a case about a man – the defendant – who in the pursuit of nothing more than his own sexual gratification, variously drugged, sexually assaulted and in four cases killed young gay men he had invited back to his flat.”
Rees adds: “We say all of the offending behavior was driven by one main factor, namely the defendant’s appetite for having sexual intercourse with younger, gay males while they were unconscious through drugs.”
The trial began this week, and it is not known how long it will take for both sides to present their cases.
