Georgie Aldous, a male makeup artist, has become the first male model for a new beauty product for NEW B and the first male makeup model for Superdrug, the cosmetic store.
Aldous recently explained his interest in makeup:
“I’ve liked make-up for as long as I can remember. I always had an interest in it when I was playing with it and wearing it…. I didn’t want to take it off. Since then I’ve grown to love it even more and it’s now my career.”
He also talked his past experiences in school and how bad they were, yet how they eventually turned around when his makeup career took off.
“I had the worst experience in school with bullying which included having to be escorted to and from the changing rooms as it got that bad and I did slip into depression and self-harm.”
He then began blogging and was touched by the outpouring of love and support he received. He now has nearly 10,000 Instagram followers and over 30,000 Twitter followers
In his new role, Aldous hopes that companies will see him and begin featuring more men in makeup campaigns.
“I hope to influence the younger generation to just have fun and don’t let others stop you. I want younger boys to look up to me and know that it’s okay if you like makeup and it’s not ‘just for girls’.”
Georgie adds: “Being part of this campaign makes me proud to be a man in makeup. And it makes me happy knowing that there are people out there now who will feel included too.”
He wants his fans to just go for it and be themselves. “Never let anyone tell you how to do your own makeup – just have fun with it. People constantly say to me ‘you haven’t done this right’ or ‘you haven’t done this right’ and makeup is supposed to be fun.
