Sarah Jessica Parker, star of the HBO classic Sex and The City, has said that the SaTC ladies may reunite “sooner than you think”.
The second Sex and The City film was, in my opinion, a pretty big disappointment. It felt, empty, hollow and lacked the spirit and humour of the original series. But, that’s not to say that I wouldn’t love for them to redeem themselves with a third attempt.
Earlier this year, SJP doused the rumours of a Sex and The City reunion, but recently she has changed her tune. She has been teasing that a third film may just be in the works.
She said to CBS: “I will say that the idea, it rests in the butler’s pantry. It’s not on the table, but somebody is holding it fairly nearby.”
Of course, as you might not know, Sarah was not always so keen to stay tied down to the series. She recently discussed with People about how she almost backed out of the show after it’s successful pilot.
Sarah said to People: “I was like, ‘I don’t know if I think I want to do that. Is there a way to not do that? I met my agents in L.A.-Kevin Huvane-and I was like, ‘Do you think maybe I could not do this now?’ Because I wanted to keep doing a play and doing a movie and doing a play. So, the way I thought it was going to change my life was that it was going to like hold me hostage to a commitment.”
But happily, the execs over at HBO are no slouches, and they managed to convince Sarah to stay on.
“HBO, in its infinite wisdom, sat me down and said, ‘No, no, no, no, no. We don’t function like that. We want you here if you want to be here and we make shows based on how we are feeling about [them]. We don’t have to respond to advertising dollars, so let’s just have a season and see how it goes.'”
Last month however, Sarah made similar reunion comments, when she hinted that she, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis would be onscreen together again soon.
“I don’t think any of us have said no. I don’t know whether it’s a series or the movie,” she said to PA. “I think that remains an open question and discussion that will continue until it’s been resolved. I think that’s always a possibility, definitely.”
Of course, Sarah isn’t the only SaTC star to discuss the possibility of a reunion, as Cynthia Nixon also recently said she would be happy to return for a third film.
“If Michael Patrick King [series creator] thought there was a story there that he wanted to write and tell. I do not have a story in mind. Luckily that’s not my department.”
