Stranger Things was a surprise hit for many people this year. It seemed to come out of nowhere and take everyone by storm – and rightfully so. The show was well written, gripping, and a wonderful reproduction of the 80’s.
Of course, we already know that Stranger Things is returning to Netflix for a second season, but we don’t know much beyond that. However, in a new interview with Collider director Shawn Levy has given us some teasers on what to expect for season two. There are spoilers here for the first season of Stranger Things.
Previous interviews have suggested that season two will take place a year after the original, but Levy decline to comment on an actual timeline: “I’m not gonna say how much time has gone by. It is not the next day, I’ll say that. And there are several new characters who I think several of them are going to be new fan-favorites because they’re great, great new characters. But we are definitely sticking primarily with our core group, and what is different, how are they changed from the experience of last season… maybe ‘normal’ is never possible again.”
Obviously at the end of season one, we finally had the return of Will Byers after pretty much an entire season spent in the strange and frightening world that is the Upside Down. In the show’s final scenes, it showed us that while Will has managed to survive his encounter with that world, it has left him changed.
“Will Byers was in that Upside Down for a while. So season 2 is about this determined desire to return to normalcy in Hawkins, in the Byers family, in that group of friends, and it’s the struggle to reclaim normalcy and maybe the impossibility of it.”
It’s safe to say that even with the return of Will and the disappearance of Eleven, “normal” is a thing of the past in Hawkins, Indiana. I don’t think we’ve seen the last of Eleven, and those strange slug-like things that Will was coughing up at the end of the season? I think it’s another safe bet that they mean we have not seen the last of the Demogorgon either.
