Despite a number of conservatives who want Trump to get rid of the administration’s LGBT envoy position, the president has decided to keep Randy Berry employed.
Berry started as a special LGBT envoy in 2015, appointed by President Obama. The post had never existed before and Randy Berry was the first to take on such an important role. At the time, right-wing homophobes said that this was Obama’s attempt at “entrenching the LGBTI agenda into the US government”.
Regardless, Obama continued to stay very supportive of Randy’s work and assigned him to help tackle homophobia in South America and Uganda.
Much of the LGBT community was concerned that the role would be eliminated when Trump took office, as many of Trump’s advisors were dead set against it.
However, nt one of the most pleasantly surprising things we’ve heard from the new administration, Trump has decided to continue to keep Randy Berry on his staff in his current position.
Hooray for one good decision!
