Today at a Trump rally, the Republican presidential candidate surprisingly showed off an LGBT flag on stage. Donald Trump saw one of his audience members holding the rainbow flag with “LGBTs for Trump” written on it, and he borrowed it so he could parade it around in front of his supporters.
We are once again reminded that while Trump considers himself a friend to the gays, he surrounds himself with leaders who are vocal supporters of anti-LGBT legislation. And he continues boasting that if he wins, he promises to appoint incredibly conservative Supreme Court justices who will dismantle the positive pro-LGBT laws that have already been put into place.
Even the Log Cabin Republicans have said that they simply cannot endorse Donald Trump.
Mike Pence, Trump’s running mate, passed anti-LGBT laws as governor, which allowed gay people to be discriminated against by local businesses. And he recently said: “No-one should fear persecution because of their deeply-held religious beliefs. I’m a Christian, a conservative and a Republican, in that order. The Trump-Pence administration will be dedicated to preserving the liberties of our people, including the freedom of religion that’s enshrined in our Bill of Rights.”
What this equates to is that if someone wants to discriminate against a same-sex couple claiming religious freedom, the Trump-Pence ticket will allow this to happen!
So, Trump can wave any flag he wants on his stage and pretend that he’s everything to everyone, but most of us know who he really is and what he really stands for.
