An executive order from the White House was leaked, and it shows that plans are in the works to permit LGBT discrimination based on the guise of religious freedom.
This order will eliminate all protections that the LGBT community has gained in recent years. It would allow for gay and trans people to be denied housing, fired from their jobs, turned away from businesses and deprived of services.
This order would nullify all of the protections that Obama put in place. The text reads: “The provisions of this order shall prevail in cases of conflict with any existing executive order and with any future executive order unless such future order explicitly refers to, and limited or excludes, the application of this order. All agencies shall promptly withdraw or rescind any rulings, directives, regulations, guidance, positions, or interpretations that are inconsistent with this order to the extent of their inconsistency.”
If this order goes into effect, it will also restrict contraception and abortion under the Affordable Care Act.
We do not yet know when the executive order will officially be announced, and we certainly hope that it will be scrapped or at least substantially revised. However, Trump did speak about religious freedom at the National Prayer Breakfast yesterday.
“It was the great Thomas Jefferson who said, ‘The God who gave us life, gave us liberty.’ Jefferson asked, ‘Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God?’ Among those freedoms is the right to worship according to our own beliefs. That is why I will get rid of and totally destroy the Johnson Amendment and allow our representatives of faith to speak freely and without fear of retribution,” Trump said.
“Freedom of religion is a sacred right,” Trump continued. “But it is also a right under threat all around us, and the world is under serious, serious threat, in so many different ways. And I’ve never seen it so much and so openly as since I took the position of president. The world is in trouble but we’re gonna straighten it out, okay? That’s what I do, I fix things.”
“My administration will do everything in its power to defend and protect religious freedom,” Trump promised, that is as long as you are Judeo-Christian he implied.
This does not sound good, folks. Not good at all.
