In Orlando at 2am on Sunday morning, a gunman shot up gay nightclub, Pulse, killing 50 people.
After the atrocious gunfire, a hostage situation broke out and a SWAT team was called in hopes that further lives would not be lost. After the killing rampage, the suspect, Omar Mateen, got into gun battle with police.
Police Chief John Mina said: “We exchanged gunfire with the suspect, and he was dead at the scene.”
30 people were rescued and 42 others were taken to a hospital. One police officer was injured.
The gunman was armed with an assault rifle and a handgun. FBI Special Agent Ronald Hopper said the attack is being investigated as a possible act of terrorism.
Police are still trying to determine what exactly happened and what led to these horrific events. “Anyone who was at Pulse nightclub and was a witness please come to the Orlando Police HQ,” the department tweeted. “Any information you have could aid investigators in this case.”
