President Obama Proclaims June Pride Month

President Obama has released a presidential proclamation in support of LGBT Americans and proclaims that June 2016 shall be Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month.

The president’s proclamation highlights the landmark Supreme Court case last year that ensures marriage equality across the U.S.  It also proclaims that the president’s administration is “striving to better understand the needs of LGBT adults,” including housing for LGBT elderly, health disparities facing LGBT and the continuous fight against HIV/AIDS, and opposing conversion therapy.   The president pointedly states: “LGBT individuals deserve to know their country stands beside them.”

President Obama also reminds us that “Despite the extraordinary progress of the past few years, LGBT Americans still face discrimination simply for being who they are…” and that “There remains much work to do to extend the promise of our country to every American…”  Unfortunately, this is very true.

We here at Pride Life want to thank President Obama for this proclamation and for all the hard work he and his Administration have undertaken to further LGBT equality.

The full proclamation can be found on the White House’s website.
