All four of the original members of Abba are set to reunite for a new digital entertainment experience.
While Abba did appear at a 50th anniversary party back in June, the group have not performed together since they split up around 30 years ago. The new project is going to be huge for that very reason, and will include virtual reality and artificial intelligence as a “new entertainment experience”.
This reunion is in collaboration with music manager Simon Fuller. Full details are expected in 2017.
Fuller said in a prepared statement: “We are exploring a new technological world that will allow us to create new forms of entertainment and content we couldn’t have previously imagined.”
The Abba reunion project is being described as a “groundbreaking venture that will utilise the very latest in digital and virtual reality technology”.
Anni-Frid Lyngstad touched on the reunion, saying how requests for the much beloved group had been much requested over the years. He said: “I hope this new Abba creation will excite them as much as it excites me.”
As for Benny Andersson, he said: “We’re inspired by the limitless possibilities of what the future holds and are loving being a part of creating something new and dramatic here. A time machine that captures the essence of who we were and are.”
Naturally, the Abba reunion is not just targeting long standing fans, but will be aiming to take the experience to a new generation of potential fans. They are aiming to have you see, hear and feel the band “in a way previously unimagined”.
What this means exactly, we will have to wait and see…
