$7 million… That’s the amount Amber Heard will receive from Johnny Depp as a result of their divorce settlement. But Heard won’t be spending her money on a new house, flashy cars, extravagant vacations, or bling; instead, she will donate the settlement money to charity.
Heard has confirmed that the settlement money, all $7 million of it, will be donated to two charities – the ACLU and the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. She explained: “As described in the restraining order and divorce settlement, money played no role for me personally and never has, except to the extent that I could donate it to charity and, in doing so, hopefully help those less able to defend themselves.”
She continued: “As reported in the media, the amount received in the divorce was $7 million and $7 million is being donated. This is over and above any funds that I have given away in the past and will continue to give away in the future…. I know these organizations will put the funds to good use and look forward to continuing to support them in the future. Hopefully, this experience results in a positive change in the lives of people who need it the most.”
The settlement was reached after many months of fighting between the two (via their attorneys), sometimes in the media and other times in the courtroom. Depp and Heard were only married for 15 months before the two officially divorced among reports of domestic abuse. Therefore, it is notable that Heard said that her donation to the ACLU will be used to help stop violence against women.
