Australians have voted overwhelmingly in favour of same-sex marriage.
In a referendum, 61.6 of the 12.7 million Australians who voted said that they were in favour of allowing LGBT people to marry the person they love.
The result of the referendum is not binding, but the leaders of all the major political parties have said that they will stand by and implement the decision of the referendum.
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said: “The people of Australia have spoken, and I intend to make their wish the law of the land by Christmas. This is an overwhelming call for marriage equality.”
