Complaints about Doctor Whos lesbian kiss

Broadcasting regulator Ofcom has received six complaints after a lesbian kiss was featured on Saturday's first episode of the new Doctor Who series, the Independent reports.

The kiss took place between the lizard-woman Madame Vastra and her human wife Jenny and was seen by seven million viewers.

The couple played by Neve McIntosh and Catrin Stewart have been lovers  in the top-rated science fiction show for three years, but this is the first time that they have shared an online kiss.

Some viewers regarded it "unnecessary" and "gratuitous" and others complained that writer and executive producer Steven Moffatt was "pushing the gay agenda".

On Twitter however the reaction to the kiss was mostly favourable.
