President Trump recently spoke at the annual Value Voters Summit, known to be hosted by an anti-LGBT group called the Family Research Council. In support of their views, Trump defended the ultra-right and religious, stating that his “views are under attack.” He continued at the Summit to call the radical left “crazy,” that they are trying to “silence and punish” the Christians. Speaking about himself and his Christian community, Trump further stated, “We’re under assault, very simple, we’re under assault. We believe in the right to free speech, we believe in the right to life. They’re [liberals] trying to silence and punish the speech of Christians and religious believers of all faiths. They are trying to hound you from workplace, expel you from the public square and weaken the American family and indoctrinate our children.” These statements go very much against the sentiment of Trump’s recent claims to protect LGBT rights and to decriminalize homosexuality on a global perspective.
