After a fantastic showing with season two, fans have been left wondering if we’ll be treated to more Charlie Cox goodness with Daredevil season 3.
While we don’t have any info one way or the other yet, we do know that four characters will 100% be appearing in The Defenders.
Charlie Cox, who plays Matt Murdock, discussed this in a recent public appearance. When he was asked about the chances of a third season of Daredevil, he said: “We don’t know if there’s going to be a season three. I certainly don’t know.”
He did, however, go on to confirm that The Defenders will feature Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage.
Charlie went on to say: “What we do know is at the end of this year we’re going to be making The Defenders and, of course, Daredevil is very much a part of that foursome. I have no idea what the storyline is going to be for that show. I’m very excited to see how those world’s combine… and interested to see tonally how those shows become one. In terms of wrapping up any storylines, maybe they’ll do some of that in The Defenders. Or maybe they won’t.”
Then, he went on to imply that Daredevil just might find himself in the leading position in this unlikely band of allies.
“He can’t do this alone. He’s been so adamant about being a lone wolf, about doing it himself, so I think that in order for him to get to The Defenders we needed this second season. We needed to see him be broken individually so that he can – he’s willing to form a team. The lesson that Matt has had to learn in the second season of Daredevil is that he needs help.”
While the idea of Matt Murdock taking the lead is purely speculative, it wouldn’t fit his character to take a backseat when he has been so stubbornly “lone wolf” for such a long time. However, I also think that headstrong Jessica Jones and Luke Cage aren’t exactly going to take his leadership well, so I can definitely see some clashing of wills if Daredevil does take on a leadership role.
The Defenders will shoot later on this year, so we could maybe have an early to mid 2017 premiere.
