David Bowie has been added to the nominees for the British artist of the year prize at the BBC Music Awards this year.
He will be joining some pretty heavy hitters, who include Adele, Calvin Harris, Coldplay and Jess Glynne. While his final album, Blackstar, is widely regarded to be outstanding, he still faces some stiff competition.
Adele won the award last year, so it will be interesting to see if this posthumous nomination ends in a victory.
Bowie’s addition to the shortlist might come as a bit of a surprise to some, as you may recall that he was bafflingly absent from album of the year nominations last month. Blackstar was tipped for inclusion, but was beaten to the punch by Rick Astley (yes, really), Adele, Coldplay, ELO, and Michael Kiwanuka.
While Blackstar’s omission from the album of the year nominations is quite strange, given the resounding praise it has received, we might at least see Bowie get posthumous recognition for his wonderful work with artist of the year.
