Dolly Parton denies rumours about her sexuality

Country legend and gay icon Dolly Parton has denied that her best friend Judy Ogle is her partner.

Rumours have persisted over the years that Dolly and her best friend of 64 years are in a relationship.

Speaking to the Sun, she said: “So people say that — because you can’t really have a great relationship with a woman. I’m not gay but I have so many gay friends and I accept everybody for who they are.”

The singer has been married to her husband Carl Thomas Dean for 52 years, although he tries to avoid the limelight.

Speaking of her friendship with Judy Ogle, she said: “Judy and I have been best friends for 64 years, since we were little kids. Our parents knew each other, we grew up together, we were like sisters, became best friends.”

She added: “People love to talk — but sometimes that’s your best publicity. I don’t care what they say as long as they don’t hurt other people I love.”

9 to 5, the musical based on the movie starring Parton and produced by the singer, is currently playing at the Savoy Theatre in London.
