Donald Trump Gets In Hot Water With EA

Donald Trump definitely acts like a man whom the rules don’t apply to when it comes to not only his comments made, but his general tactics with his campaign for President.

Now that laissez-faire attitude has landed Trump in hot water with Electronic Arts, one of the largest publishers in the gaming industry. Now I know you’re wonderingf how Trump might have stepped into the crosshairs of somene like EA.

Essentially, he posted something he shouldn’t have on Youtube. Some of you reading this may be familiar with how thing work on Youtube in terms of copyright and copyright infringement, but if you’re not, essentially your video can either have an ad placed on it by a third party for using unapproved copyrighted content, or the content can be taken down entirely. The latter is known as a copyright strike.

What happened is that a fan made video was created, using the logo style of well known EA property Mass Effect. While this video was not officially created by Trump or any of his campaign staff, Trump did retweet it from his official account.  The video also used audio completely taken from the game.

The video in question was swiftly given a copyright strike by EA and pulled down from Youtube. For a while, it was still available to view on Twitter, but even that is gone now. If you try to view it, you get this message: “Tweet withheld. This Tweet from @realDonaldTrump has been withheld in response to a report from the copyright holder.”

An EA rep said in a statement: “The video was an unauthorized use of our IP. We do not support our assets being used in political campaigns.”

The fan created video itself, as well as Trump’s sharing of it via official channels, was also criticised by a key designer for Mass Effect 3 Manveer Heir.
