We recently discussed how despite claims to the contrary, Sir Elton John will not be playing at President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration. It seems that Trump’s in auguration troubles go much further than that.
There are reports that Trump is very much struggling to find A-list stars to perform at his inauguration. You might recall that when President Obama had his inauguration, he had Beyonce and Aretha Franklin perform.
According to The Wrap, Trump’s inaugural committee is struggling to find stars of that caliber to play at the event. An unnamed source said: “They’re calling managers, agents, everyone in town to see who they can get and it’s been problematic.”
John Legend, who has been a guest of the Obama’s numerous times, said that he “is not surprised at all”.
He said to the BBC: “Creative people tend to reject bigotry and hate. We tend to be more liberal-minded. When we see somebody that’s preaching division and hate and bigotry, it’s unlikely he’ll get a lot of creative people that want to be associated with him.”
As mentioned at the start of the article there were claims from Anthony Scaramucci, a member of the presidential inaugural committee, that Elton John would be performing at the inauguration. However, it didn’t take long for this to be shut down by Sir Elton’s representatives.
There are even rumblings from The Wrap’s sources that the inauguration team are breaking protocol by offering various top tier artists an appearance fee.
An insider said to The Wrap: “They are willing to pay anything. They told me, ‘We’ll pay their fees.’ Most of these artists’ fees are in the six to seven figures.”
Another insider claimed that while the performers they have managed to book were not being paid to appear, their travel and accommodations were being taken care of – which can still reach the six figure mark for big names.
Unsurprisingly, these claims have been denied by Boris Epshteyn, spokesman for Trump’s Presidential Inaugural Committee: “No one with any official position at, or official relationship with, the Presidential Inaugural Committee, is engaging in the conduct described. We are focused on organizing an exciting and uniting celebration of freedom and democracy while following all rules, regulations and appropriate standards of conduct.”
While the inside sources are saying Trump’s team are still hoping for fairly high profile names like Bruno Mars and Justin Timberlake, there are also claims that much lower profile celebrities are being considered. These include Kid Rock and Billy Ray Cyrus.
