Ellen DeGeneres is commonly referred to as one of the nicest people on television, but that wasn’t enough to stop someone suing her for one of her segments.
Ellen’s parent company, are being sued by Titi Pierce after name was used as a joke in the What’s Wrong With These Ads…And These Signs? segment.
Titi is accusing Ellen of malice, as her name is pronounced “Tee Tee” but Ellen prononced it “Titty”. You can watch the segment below at 2:48, but Ellen says: “‘Titi Pierce, sounds like she might have spent some time in that nipple home.”
The complaint reads: “In all her 35 years of life, no one has ever referred to Ms Pierce as ‘titty’ until the Defendant did so on February 22, 2016 on national television. Prior to the Defendent’s misdeeds, Ms Pierce has been called only by her name ‘Titi’, which as grammar dictates, is pronounced ‘TEE TEE’.”
The complaint also further alleges that the segment led to “immediate ridicule” as the Ellen DeGeneres Show didn’t blank out her personal phone number. This led to “ridiculing and harassing” phone calls.
Ms Pierce is seeking damages and a permanent stop to the segment being aired. You can read the full complaint here.
