First lesbian superhero to debut on TV

The first openly lesbian superhero will make her appearance toward the end of this year.

Batwoman will debut on the CW channel and is based on the DC Comics character.

Batwoman, aka Kate Kane, is described by the show’s producers as a woman “armed with a passion for social justice and flair for speaking her mind”.

However, she will still have to face “her own demons” before becoming the saviour of fictional Gotham City.

Batwoman was originally introduced in the 1950s as a potential love interest for Batman.

She was later reimagined in 2006 as a lesbian crimefighter, making her the highest profile LGBT+ hero in comics.
