The first trailer for the upcoming trans drama, The Danish Girl, is now available.
The film, which is by Tom Hooper, depicts the story of trans and intersex pioneer Lili Eebe, who travelled to Germany in the 1930’s in order to have her gender reassignment surgery.
The Danish Girl is an adapatation of the David Ebershoff novel, and will star Eddie Redmayne, Matthias Schoenaerts and Amber Heard, with Tom Hooper directing.
While the film has received some criticism for not choosing a transgender actor to play the role of Lili, Redmayne said that he has done a lot of research, as well as speaking to transgender people about the issues they face.
When speaking to Out Magazine, he said:”People were so kind and generous with their experience, but also so open. I felt like, I’m being given this extraordinary experience of being able to play this woman, but with that comes this responsibility of not only educating myself but hopefully using that to educate.”
The film is due out November 27, but you can watch the trailer below.
