EW has confirmed that Fox are planning a fact-based drama about the case led month that led to the US Supreme Court ruling in favor of marriage equality. Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey are set to produce.
Fox have made a deal for the life rights of Jim Obergefell, who you most likely know of, as he is the one who successfully petition the court to get his marriage of 21 years recognised in his home state of Ohio. It’s safe to say that Jim will be the central figure of the film.
His lawyer, Al Gerhardstein, will also probably be a central figure in the film, as Fox have also acquired the life rights for him as well as the rights to his as yet unpublished book. Unfortunately, there’s not yet any information on who will star in the film, or who will be screenwriting it.
Wyck Godfrey said in a recent phone interview with the New York Times: “It’s a transcendent love story about someone who goes to such a length for love that he ends up changing the world.”
