Fuji TV Announces First Lesbian Drama For Japan

In a first for Japan, Fuji TV have announced a new drama series with a lesbian love story as it’s central theme.

This series, which is called Transit Girls, debuts on November 7 and tells the story of two teengers who become stepsisters when their parents remarry. The pair don’t get on well at first, but things quickly change and they end up falling in love.

The series is certainly being bold, as a promo photo for it shows the two lead actresses in bed together, looking into each other’s eyes and smiling.

According to Fuji TV, the show is a “heartwarming straightforward love story, but the main characters are both girls.”

They then went on to point out that this is Japan’s first ever drama dealing with the theme of “girls’ love”.

Transit Girls is coming along at just the right time in the nation, as this year saw landmark decisions from the Shibuya and Setagaya wards to recognise same-sex partnerships as equivalent to marriage.
