Continuing our look at Robbie Rogers, our gay athlete of the week, today we will be looking at his achievements and career statistics.
This article will mostly focus on his sports achievements, but there will be a few special mentions of some big moments in Robbie’s life. The first will be, of course, when he came out in 2013. As I discussed in the bio I did on him, this made him the second male footballer in Britain to be openly gay, following Justin Fashanu who came out back in 1990.
He also became the first openly gay man to compete in a top North American professional sports league when he played his first match for LA Galaxy, as well as the first openly gay male athlete to join MLS or any of the five major North American sports leagues.
The other achievement was recently just announced, which of course the fact that he and his fiance Greg Berlanti just had a baby boy, with help from a surrogate. A huge moment for both of them!
But, with all that said, let us begin the sports section with the honors and trophies Robbie has received.
- Columbus Crew
- LA Galaxy
In 2015, he was inducted into the National Gay and Lesbian Sports Hall of Fame.
Now, let’s move onto his career statistics.
