Fans of George R.R Martin’s series of books, A Song of Ice and Fire, are certainly long suffering. George is notorious for making vague promises on release dates and then inevitably delaying them.
Unsurprisingly to anyone who has followed the series which spawned the fantastic show Game of Thrones, George announced that the next book in the series, Winds of Winter, would be delayed.
Even though this was not really a shock, this was met with a sigh of frustration from many, including myself. However, despite the fact that were are all very eager to see how things continue in Westeros, fans have shown an outpouring of support for the author.
George then took to his blog, which he often uses for updates, to thank his fans for their support.
“The outpouring of support in response to my post on THE WINDS OF WINTER has been astonishing. Thank you all, so very much. There were forty pages of screened comments on the post by the time I logged on this morning. I haven’t even been able to read half of them as yet.”
So if I haven’t unscreened yours yet, be patient. (My loyal minions often do much of that for me, but they all have off right now for the New Year holiday). I am going to close comments on this post, lest I have even more messages to deal with. But I cannot tell you how much I appreciate all the kind words and good wishes.”
As I mentioned earlier, I am a little frustrated at the delay. But, I would rather that George take all the time he needs to make Winds of Winter a fantastic iteration to the ASoIF series. The only real concern I have, is of the HBO series overtaking the books and showing spoilers, but that’s just something we will all have to accept as fans. We can either wait for him to finish the book, or simply accept that certain plot elements will be “spoiled”.
Whenever it ends up coming out, I have no doubt that Winds of Winter will be worth the wait.
