Germaine Greer, who recently came under scrutiny for her anti-trans views, has stirred the pot even further by going on a sweary rant against transgender people.
You may remember that the feminist author was supposed to give a talk at Cardiff University next month, but cancelled it after numerous activists protested her hateful remarks towards transgender people.
Now, she has spoken further on the topic at the Victoria Derbyshire Show, saying: “Just because you lop off your d**k and then wear a dress doesn’t make you a f***ing woman. I’ve asked my doctor to give me long ears and liver spots and I’m going to wear a brown coat but that doesn’t turn me into a f***ing cocker spaniel.”
“I do understand that some people are born intersex and they deserve support in coming to terms with their gender but it’s not the same thing. A man who gets his dick chopped off is actually inflicting an extraordinary act of violence on himself.”
Greer’s rather colourful comments were recounted by the Derbyshire Show to transgender actress Rebecca Root, who had this to say: “This is something that I would equate from the worst of the gutter press – not from somebody of such an academic standing, a woman who should know better. It’s just ridiculous.”
I think we can all agree there, Rebecca.
