Much has been made about the upcoming Suicide Squad, in particular the changes made to Harley Quinn, played by Margot Robbie.
Even though Suicide Squad isn’t out for months, it seems Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn will be getting her film, but it won’t be a Harley standalone film. Instead, she will lead an all girl DC Comics lineup.
According to reports from various sources, including the Hollywood Reporter, the lineup could consist of Batgirl, Birds of Prey, Poison Ivy, Katana and Bumblebee. Apparently, it was Margot herself who pitched this idea to Warner Bros, with an as yet unnamed writer on board and Margot producing.
This sounds like it could be very, very interesting indeed. Not only is Harley Quinn one of the most popular DC characters (attend London Comic Con and play a fun game of “spot the Harley Quinn”) and the upcoming Suicide Squad has only reignited that interest.
Also, DC has seen pretty big success with it’s new line of comics and products for their female readership, DC SuperHero girls. It would also be a great opportunity to give proper screen time to some criminally underused female characters in the DC universe.
Naturally, none of this 100% officially confirmed, so expect some changes and probably a larger roster when (or if) the official reveal comes. I have only one response to this: Shut up and take my money!
