Cara Delevingne is a hugely successful model, and gaining such a status to the point where you are earning $10,000 per day is not exactly an easy feat. So, it comes as a bit of a shock that such a successful model as Cara would quit. So why is she?
Apparently, the reasons for her leaving are sexual harassment and body-shaming. She recently touched on this topic in an interview with the The Times, where she spoke openly about her distaste for modelling.
“I am a bit of a feminist and it makes me feel sick. It’s horrible and it’s disgusting. You start when you are really young and you do, you get subjected to…not great stuff. I think you get that [sexual harassment] in every industry. I don’t think it’s just modeling, although I think it’s worse in modeling. There are male photographers who go into it purely because of the girls. But in every industry, if you are pretty, or someone likes the look of you…it’s not good.”
She has also spoken fairly recently with People Magazine, discussing how the modelling industry gave her body image issues.
“I was, like, fight and flight for months. Just constantly on edge. It is a mental thing as well because if you hate yourself and your body and the way you look, it just gets worse and worse.”
