Rachel Maddow, who is an MSNBC anchor and the first out lesbian to host a national evening news show, has spoken how she thinks she lacks the glamour of other news anchors such as NBC’s Diane Sawyer and Fox’s Megyn Kelly.
She touched on this when speaking to Playboy in their first non-nude issue, saying: “All those blondes on Fox. I mean, if I worked at a place where they did not allow you to wear sleeves, could you imagine? Or where all desks had Lucite bottoms so you could show your shins. Jesus, I feel very lucky that at MSNBC they’re like, ‘You’re fine in the $19 blazer.'”
Rachel did actually have blonde hair when she was in high school, but had it cut short and let it go dark and let it remain that way. For this reason, among many others, she has stood out from many other female news anchors.
“It is weird to be in an industry where everybody is so good-looking. I do not think of myself as a physically attractive person. I think of myself as a goober. I dress like an eight-year-old with a credit card, and I eat like that too—burritos or pizza or s’mores. That’s it. But these ostentatiously attractive people! Thomas Roberts on MSNBC is a golden god.”
I’m sure many would disagree with her assessment, and I’m sure what her viewers really enjoy is her sharp intellect.
