Inclusivity Comes to Southwest Airlines

As recently as 2017, a Southwest Airlines boarding agent was alleged to have stopped a same-sex couple from boarding a flight at the time that they normally permit parents travelling with small children to board. This encounter lead to the filing of a suit, meeting with executives, and now, finally, Southwest changing the wording in their policy.

The family boarding policy now contains the verbiage “two adults” rather than the typical “an adult.” It’s possible that this all stemmed from an employee that didn’t see the importance of being inclusive, but on the bright side, it forced an important airline to review their own policies.
