India to review ban on gay sex

India’s Supreme Court has said that it will review its ban on gay sex.

Before 2009 gay sex in India was defined as “carnal intercourse against the order of nature” and could be punishable by life imprisonment.

The law was repealed in 2009, but was reinstated four year later in 2013.

The Supreme Court announced today that no one should have to live in fear because of their sexuality.

“The privacy of the home must protect the family, marriage, procreation and sexual orientation, which are all important aspects of dignity,” it said.
