Jared Leto has solidified his role as star and producer of an upcoming biopic of the famous cultural icon, Andy Warhol.
The new film exploring the complicated life of the famous pop artist will be simply named Warhol and is being co-produced by Michael De Luca. De Luca is already a famous name in Hollywood for his work on other biopics and true stories such as The Social Network and Captain Philips.
The Guardian reports: “Warhol shot to fame in the 1960s with his unique take on American consumerism and quickly became a fixture in the New York club scene. He was also openly gay at a time when homosexuality wasn’t readily accepted. Amid his success, he suffered from hypochondria and was the victim of an attempted murder in 1968.”
Terence Winter, famous for his work on Boardwalk Empire, The Sopranos, and The Wolf of Wall Street, has been tapped to write the screenplay. The movie will be written based on the 1989 book, Warhol: The Biography by Victor Bockris. Leto and De Luca jointly purchased the rights to the book.
