JK Rowling Insults Homophobic Westboro Baptist Church After They Threaten To Picked Dumbledore Wedding

JK Rowling, the author of Harry Potter, the popular series of children’s books, is well known for her support of LGBT rights and her responses on social media. Rowling had said she was “in awe” at Ireland’s support for gay marriage through popular vote, and had been excited at the prospect Dumbledore and Gandalf could marry each other in Ireland.

Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) took issue with Rowling’s comments, and had threatened to ‘picket’ the wedding.

Rowling response to WBC was rather harsh: “Alas, the sheer awesomeness of such a union in such a place would blow your tiny bigoted minds out of your thick sloping skulls.”

“While I am in total agreement with you, giving them attention is counterproductive,” said one of Rowling’s fans. “That’s what they want.” “I don’t care about WBC,” assured Rowling. “I think it’s important that scared gay kids who aren’t out yet see hate speech challenged.”

Westboro Baptist Church has around forty members, and is located in Kansas, America. The church has a history of protests and anti-gay actions since at least 1991, including funeral picketing.

Evanna Lynch, the actress who portrays Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter movies, has also defended LGBT rights on social media this week after she was attacked for celebrating Ireland’s vote.
