Karen Pence Returns to Teaching at Strict School

The second lady of the United States, Karen Pence, has returned to her job teaching art at a Christian school in Virginia that does not admit LGBTQ students and employees. As of Tuesday, Mrs. Pence began teaching part-time at Immanuel Christian School, where she previously worked from 2001 to 2013. On the schools website are clearly laid out expectations for prospective and current students, their parents, and employees regarding their commitment to their faith in Jesus Christ and adherence to their definition of moral conduct. On the schools website, on the “Articles for Employment,” they explain their expectations for employees, “I understand that the term ‘marriage’ has only one meaning; the uniting of one man and one woman.” It continues to describe certain conduct that is not permitted, such as “heterosexual activity outside of marriage (e.g., premarital sex, cohabitation, extramarital sex), homosexual or lesbian sexual activity, polygamy, transgender identity, any other violation of the unique roles of male and female.” The New York Times reported that a spokesperson responded to an email on Mrs. Pence’s behalf saying, “It’s absurd that her decision to teach art to children at a Christian school, and the school’s religious beliefs, are under attack.”
