Kremlin Denies Claims That Putin Phoned Elton John

You may have seen the reports that President Vladimir Putin phoned Sir Elton John shortly after Elton’s request for an audience with him to discuss LGBT issues.

Now, these claims have been readily denied, as Dmitry Peskov said the Kremlin was was unsure how “authentic” the claims being made were. In case you missed it, there was a post made on the singer’s Instagram which thanked Putin for “reaching out and speaking via telephone with me today. I look forward to meeting with you face to face to discuss LGBT equality in Russia.”

But Peskov rebuked this claim, saying: “I don’t doubt that if there is such a request, the president will be ready to meet with Elton John among others to give answers to all the questions that he might ask. But we haven’t received such signals yet.”

There has yet to be a response from Sir Elton or his representatives.
