A Labour councillor from Harrow in North London has been suspended after calling Gay Pride marchers paedophiles.
Chika Amadi, who sits on Harrow council and is an evangelical Christian, shared an image on her Twitter account of a naked man walking in Toronto’s Gay Pride march in 2011, and which she said forced a little girl to “cover her eyes”.
In her tweet, which has now been deleted, she wrote: “Nothing but paedophilia being labelled liberalism adults polluting children with their senselessness.”
When accused of homophobia by other tweeters, she replied: “Evil. If you dare walk naked in front of my child God will give you terrible assignment that will put you to perpetual sleep. Be warned.”
The tweets were called “offensive, distasteful and homophobic” by the Labour Campaign for LGBT rights.
Ms Amadi has now been suspended from the Labour Party pending further investigation.
Harrow Council’s leader, Sachin Shah, told London’s Evening Standard: “As Leader of Harrow Council and a proud Harrow resident I absolutely reject and condemn these abhorrent statements.
“Homophobic views have no place in our community – which is one of the most diverse and accepting in all of the UK.
“We stand for equal rights for all – and I have asked the national Labour Party to deal with this issue swiftly and decisively.”
