Lady Gaga is sick of hearing her music likened to Madonna. So, it’s no surprise that when she sat down for a recent interview on the eve of debuting her new album, Joanne, she had a few things to say about the comparison.
Zane Lowe, the interviewer for Beats 1 radio show, said: “There is another artist who has lived a very parallel existence. Based on this story, which I’m sure you can relate to. You know Madonna tells a very similar story … overprotective father … ‘Papa Don’t Preach.’ You know what I mean.”
Lady Gaga responded by denying the similarities: “Madonna and I are very different.”
She continued: “I wouldn’t make that comparison at all. I don’t mean to disrespect Madonna … she’s a nice lady. And she’s had a fantastic, huge career. She’s the biggest pop star of all time. But I play a lot of instruments. I write all my own music. I spend hours and hours a day in the studio. I’m a producer. I’m a writer. What I do is different.”
She is very clear that she wants to be seen as a unique artist on her own two feet.
“I am who the f**k I am and this is me. My life story is my life story, just like yours is. The thing is we all express things in different ways.”
The rumors of a feud between Lady Gaga and Madonna are long lived although both camps have denied such gossip. But Lady Gaga’s recent comments may just have added more spark to the fire.
