Laverne Cox & Caitlyn Jenner Urge For Veto of South Dakota Bill

You may have seen the news that South Dakota might have the…. um, “honour” of becoming the very first state to enact a transgender bathroom law, forcing trans people to use the bathroom coinciding with their biological sex.

Recently, both Laverne Cox and Caitlyn Jenner have spoken out against the bill, urging governor Dennis Daugaard to veto the bill.

Laverne took to Instagram to speak out against the bill, using a photo of trans South Dakota student Thomas Lewis who recently spoke on his experiences having to use the bathroom for his biological sex, rather than his gender identity.

She wrote: “Let’s urge the South Dakota governor to veto H.B. 1008, the bill that ostracizes trans students and targets them for even more harassment and bullying. Studies show that 78% of trans students experience harassment or bullying in school and nearly 50% attempt suicide. We should be creating safer, nurturing environments for our children not more hostile ones. Sign the petition to urge the South Dakota governor to veto this bill.”

As mentioned, there has also been a call to veto from Caitlyn Jenner, who is arguably one of the highest profile transgender women right now.
