Lego is releasing new figures that were designed to reflect alternative families and traditional gender roles.
These minifigures, part of their Lego City line, include a stay-at-home dad and a working mom. Lego says these new figures “mirror the world we live in today,” since stay-at-home fathers are becoming more and more common.
“We need to stay in tune with the world around us,” Soren Torp Lauresen, the President of Lego Systems, says. “We aren’t responding to demand from anyone. We are trying to portray the world around us and listen to our consumer base.”
Additionally, the new Lego line includes a kid in a wheelchair with a guide dog for the first time.
The Lego minifigures line is known for its customization options, so the company is expected to think outside the traditional box as far as families and gender roles are concerned. Does this mean that we may have a same sex family coming out soon? We certainly hope so!
