Madonna releases new anthem in time for Pride

Madonna has released a new single, I Rise, from her forthcoming album Madame X.

With empowering lyrics such as “There’s nothing you can do to me that hasn’t been done… No game that you can pay with me, I ain’t one”, the singer said that the song was written as a way of giving voice to all marginalised people who feel they don’t have the opportunity to speak their mind.

She added: “This year is the 50th anniversary of Pride, and I hope this song encourages all individuals to be who they are, to speak their minds and to love themselves.”

Madame X will be released on 14 June, shortly before the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Inn riots in New York City, which are widely regarded as the beginning of the modern-day LGBT+ rights movement.
