Madonna is a music legend, and rightfully so. This year, she will be receiving the Billboard 2016 Woman of the Year Award.
Madonna will be accepting this award at the Billboard’s Women in Music event, which celebrates the 50 most powerful women in the industry each year.
Janice Min, president and chief creative officer of The Hollywood Reporter-Billboard Media Group, had this to say: “Madonna is one of a miniscule number of super-artists whose influence and career transcend music.”
“With her creative vision, relentless innovation, and dedication to philanthropic causes, she is an inspiration to hundreds of millions of people around the world, all while shattering every career record out there. She is an important feminist on top of that, a one-of-a-kind artist who’s used her influence to change the conversation around women, sexuality and equal rights.”
The Billboard award will certainly go nicely with her almost endless collection of trophies she’s won over the years – her trophy cabinet must be ginormous! It’s hardly surprising that Billboard have chosen her, as she is the best-selling female recording artist of all time and has 8 No. 1 albums (and 21 top 10 albums) on the Billboard 200 and 12 No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100.
Billboard’s 11th annual Women in Music event will be held December 19 in New York.
