Mark Hammill, Luke Skywalker himself, says that his character’s sexual orientation is completely up for grabs. There has been so much gossip lately about the possibility of homosexual characters in Star Wars, and J.J. Abrams even encouraged future gay characters and plotlines.
And now Skywalker responds to the fans who are calling for gay characters.
Hammill commented: “I just read online that J.J. is very much open to that. In the old days, you would get fan mail, but now fans are writing and asking all these questions…fans are writing and ask all these questions, ‘I’m bullied in school… I’m afraid to come out’. They say to me, ‘Could Luke be gay?’ I’d say it is meant to be interpreted by the viewer… If you think Luke is gay, of course he is. You should not be ashamed of it. Judge Luke by his character, not by who he loves.”
The plot for the next Star Wars film is very hush hush; however, Daisy Ridley has said that Luke will be “so cool” in the upcoming film, which is slated for release in December 2017.
And so, in your best Darth Vader voice: “Luke, I am your… uh… fan. “
