M15 has been named the most gay-friendly employer in the UK, after a survey conducted by LGBT rights charity Stonewall.
This was no easy feat, as M15 beat out 600 employers in the UK in order to top out Stonewall’s list of best UK employers for LGBT people.
Stonewall’s statement on the results, reads: “The Top 100 Employers list, created by lesbian, gay, bi and trans (LGBT) equality charity Stonewall, is compiled from submissions to the Workplace Equality Index, a powerful benchmarking tool used by employers to assess their achievements and progress on LGBT equality in the workplace.”
“Each participant must demonstrate their expertise in 10 distinct areas of employment policy and practice, including networking groups, career development, training and community engagement.”
Andrew Parker, the MI5 director, was naturally very pleased by this stellar recognition from Stonewall, calling it a “great acknowledgement of the continued progress we have made.”
The survey was done over 60,000 staff from across 400 organisers about their employer’s attitudes.
Andrew Parker went on to say: “Diversity is vital for MI5, not just because it’s right that we represent the communities we serve, but because we rely on the skills of the most talented people whoever they are, and wherever they may be.”
