More than 40 gay men arrested in Nigeria

More than 40 men were arrested over the weekend in Nigeria for performing homosexual acts.

Nigerian newspaper Punch reports that the men were arrested at the Vincent Hotel in Lagos State on Saturday.

The hotel was subsequently cordoned off.

Sex between men is illegal in Nigeria and can be punished by up to 14 years’ imprisonment.

However, in some areas of the country that are governed by Shari’s law, the maximum punishment is death by stoning.

The men will be charged in court later today.
