Strictly Come Dancing is returning this autumn, to the joy of some and the chagrin of others. It has been announced that three new performers will be joining Strictly’s lineup when it returns this fall.
The three confirmed so far are Russia’s Katya Jones, Spain’s Gorka Marquez and Ukraine’s Oksana Platero, who said that they feel “privileged”, “excited” and “fortunate” to be featured on the hit BBC show.
These three, plus other dancers who have yet to be confirmed, will be replacing the likes of Ola Jordan, Tristan MacManus, Kristina Rihanoff and Gleb Savchenko. This year’s Strictly will also see the departure of Aliona Vilani, who won last year’s show with Jay McGuiness.
For any overseas viewers, or fans of US programming, you may recognise Platero’s name, as she was choreographer on the US show So You Think You Can Dance. As for Katya Jones, she is very accomplished as she and her husband Neil, one of Strictly’s choreographers, have won the World Amateur Latin Championships three times and are also World Professional Latin Showdance champions.
Gorka Marquez, on the other hand, has seen success when he represented Spain at the World Latin Championships back in 2010 and has also toured internationally with stage show Burn the Floor.
Fans of the show will be pleased to see the return of Anton du Beke, Brendan Cole and the husband and wife team of Kevin and Karen Clifton. As mentioned earlier, Savchenko will not be on the show this year, due to “family commitments”.
