Pastor is fired after marrying a lesbian couple

Anna Golladay, a pastor of the United Methodist Church (UMC) in Chattanooga, Tennessee, was fired after a photo was shared of her officiating at a same-sex wedding.

The UMC bans its pastors from conducting same-sex marriages, and maintains that “that the practice of homosexuality is incompatible with Christian teaching”.

Lead pastor Gary Ihfe said Ms Golladay’s congregation which is mainly made up of LGBT Christians were “deeply upset” when they learned of the news.

“I am so sorry for the pain that is being felt by many of our families who feel as though they have come under attack.”
